Chris Shaw is originally from Bartlesville, but joined Strength of Mind in 2014 after living for 14 years in Jackson, Mississippi. It was there that he studied at Belhaven University for his undergraduate degree and continued his education by earning a Masters Degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from Reformed Theological Seminary. Between college and graudate school Chris devoted himself to education from 2003 to 2009, serving as a secondary teacher for Chamberlain-Hunt Military Academy and Mt. Salus Christian school. He has taught a wide range of classes including Art, Logic, History and Psychology.

Searching for the deeper solution to educational problems led Chris into the field of Marriage and Family to work with children and their families in a counseling environment. After finishing graduate school in 2011, he worked full-time as school counselor for grades K4-12, taught several classes including college Psychology and developed a private practice, working with families and individuals in a therapeutic setting while seeking professional licensure. He currently holds professional licensures both as a Licensed Professional Counselor and as a Marriage and Family Therapist. Chris is a member of the Association for Play Therapy.

Chris believes that each individual is unique and valuable, that the scope of emotions and the depth of pain we experience are common as humans and that hope and healing is possible again, even when seemingly unrecoverable. Compassion and empathy are essential to his work with individual adults, couples and children, ages 5 and above. Chris excercises a collaborative approach in his work with clients to cover many life circumstances including pre-marital counseling, marital and family conflict/communication, defiance, social skills, life transitions, anxiety, anger management, depression, grief, and trauma.
