Susan Waters is a board certified Psychotherapist through the American Psychotherapy Association and a Licensed Professional Counselor. Her educational background includes a Master of Education with specialties in reading and learning disabilities from Towson State University, a Master of Counseling Psychology from the University of Kentucky and a Master of Clinical Psychology from the Fielding Institute. Susan has additional training and experience in drug and alcohol counseling, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Gestalt Therapy, Interpersonal Therapy, Solution-Focused Therapy, and Marriage and Family Therapy. Susan has been working in the mental health field since 1983 in both agency and private practice settings. She has significant experience working with children, adolescents and adults struggling with: ADHD, depression/anxiety disorders, post-traumatic stress disorder, recovery from alcohol and substance abuse, bi-polar disorder, parenting and marital issues. Susan is also certified in Equine Assisted Psychotherapy through the Equine Assisted Growth and Learning Association. This type of therapy is an approach to problem solving, where the horse and therapist act as a team to help individuals explore the metaphorical dimensions of non-verbal communication.

Susan joined Strength of Mind in 2008 and by using her knowledge in these various modalities she strives to individualize treatment for each client. Susan takes a holistic approach to her practice as she encourages her clients to find ways to manage life stressors. Susan is willing to explore alternative treatment options and design an individualized treatment plan that is unique to each of her patients.

Susan lives on a small ranch outside Skiatook where tall grass prairie winds blow over pristine ponds and old pecan trees. She rescues and rehabilitates small horses and other animals. She plays guitar and piano, tends to her extensive gardens where she studies the medicinal properties of native plants, and loves to travel whenever she can.
