Kara Burrows was born and raised in Claremore, OK. Kara began her collegiate career at University of Oklahoma in Norman, OK working towards a degree in psychology. After her junior year, Kara took a break from academics to gain work experience in an effort to focus her career goals. In 2011, she graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree and continued her education by earning a Master of Arts in Counseling and a Master of Arts in Counseling with a Concentration in Marital and Family Therapy in 2013 from Oral Roberts University in Tulsa, OK.
Working to better the lives of children and their families has always been a central focus of Kara’s life and it led her to work with CREOKS Behavioral Health Services after graduation. During her four years with CREOKS, Kara became a Licensed Professional Counselor and received training in Play Therapy. Kara was delighted to begin a new chapter in her career by joining Strength of Mind in May of 2017. In August of 2018, Kara received her credentials to be a Registered Play Therapist.
Kara believes all people are valuable and deserving of a life of their choice enriched with emotional, cognitive, and physical wellness that speaks to the whole person. Compassion, empathy, and dignity are important elements to the collaborative work between Kara and her clients. Kara works with children age four to eighteen as well as their families. Kara engages in an integrative approach to therapy incorporating different theories including Cognitive Behavior Therapy, Play Therapy, Psychoeducation and other modalities to meet clients specific needs. Kara treats children who are struggling with ADHD, emotion dysregulation, oppositional and defiant behavior, social skills, coping skills, family communication/conflict, problems at school, depression, anxiety, anger management, life transitions, and grief.
